Cruisair
specifies rugged, reliable seawater pumps to provide a steady
flow of water through the air conditioning system.
For most vessels, centrifugal-type pumps are recommended.
These are not self-priming and must be mounted below the
water line. For houseboats and certain other shallow-draft
vessels, where the pump must be mounted above the water
line, self-priming pumps must be used.
When more than one condensing unit is supported by a single
seawater pump, a separate pump relay is used. The use of
both internal and external strainers is recommended. When
possible, a scoop-type thru-hull fitting should be used
for best results.
